OUR PROGRAMS

In 10 years of community service, Misi Kami Peduli (Mission: We Care) has completed various programs under the three pillars of Community Empowerment, Education and Technology. This year, we are glad to be back with our new programs to help another community in Sumba. Born from these three pillars are the three program divisions that are thoroughly assessed to provide a holistic support for the beneficiaries.

EDUCATION

“Sekolah-sekolah saja tidak dapat memajukan masyarakat, tetapi juga keluarga di rumah harus turut bekerja. Lebih-lebih dari rumahlah kekuatan mendidik itu harus berasal." - R.A. Kartini

Purpose

We believe that in order to improve the education level in Sumba, it is crucial that we help to increase the motivation level and enthusiasm of the people (students and parents alike) towards learning. We will also help to better improve the formal institution in the village both physically and academically.

Programs

We plan to increase the motivation level towards learning by providing academic assistance to teachers, guiding parents on the importance of education, as well as engaging young children in the village in our various interactive education programs.

The education division will also help to support our technology and infrastructure department in educating the villagers on the equipment and facilities which are going to be implemented in the village. This is to ensure that the villagers understand their importance as well as how to take care of them.

Education

Purpose

Solar water pump will transfer water from the nearest water source, which is located 3 kilometers away from the village along a downward sloping terrain, to the village. The water will be stored inside a water collection tank and the villagers could use it for their daily activities. The solar water pump system will improve the accessibility of water for the villagers all year round.

Considerations

The nearest water source is always filled with water all year long. However, due to the far location of the water source, it is hard for the villagers to access this clean water. Thus, solar water pump will provide access to clean water for the villagers. In addition, solar water pump is sustainable as it does not need extensive maintenance and it can be used throughout the year, even during dry season.

Design

The water from the water source will be collected inside a tank. The tank will be connected to the solar water pump which then transfer the water to another water collection tank located inside the village. These two tanks and water pump will be interconnected by a piping system.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Solar Water Pump

Infrastructure division aims to provide self-sustainable water facility which enable villagers to easily access water even in dry seasons.

Communal Solar Panel

Most people in Sumba realize the importance of electricity, especially those who would like to work during night time. Some of them even purchase oil lamps to use at night or a simple Solar Home System (SHS), which is a small solar panel that they install on their roofs to power lamps. However, electricity is mostly still not available for them.

Therefore, we decided to build them a communal solar panel to support their need for productivity.

Considerations

We decided to go with communal solar panel instead of SHS as it will generate more power and this opens up the possibility of further upgrading such as the installation of corn grinder used for farming. Moreover, to ensure our provision is properly utilized, we will provide them with the necessary training to properly maintain the solar panels and understanding of electricity.

Design

We will pick a centralized location in the village to install the solar panels and the battery packs will be stored inside a nearby house. A combination of series and parallel circuits will be implemented based on the needs of the villagers. The capacity of the solar panel will be determined through the productivity of the villagers as well as the needs of the villagers.

We will work closely with AlvaEnergi as our expert partner for the solar panel installation.
